Golfing fans from all over have surely been following the Canadian Open. It may have only started on the 23rd but the action has been fast-paced and thrilling, with Greg Owen taking the lead with 7-under par after an impressive opening round as soon as the competition kicked off. Its American golfer Scott Piercy who has hit the headlines most recently, however. He has shown that he must have some top-notch golf grips at his disposal after setting a very admirable course record! Nevada born Piercy, 34, managed to nab the lead from Nottinghamshire born Owen after he managed 2 Eagles and a fantastic 5 birdies so emerge victorious with an 8 under par 62. His golf putters obviously helped smoothly run that ball into the hole as he grabbed the lead, effectible leaving Owen and close favourite William McGirt of North Carolina eating his dust! Watch it here.
Though Owen had snagged the lead on day one but followed that with a poor double bogey on the 10th and one bogey on the 11th. Despite this, Owen clutched one of his prized golf putters and stated, “I am putting well and when I putt well I feel confident. I don’t always putt well, it’s a poor part of my game, so when I start feeling it a little bit it just gives me more confidence to go out and hit better shots.” Perhaps he would do well eyeing up Scott Piercy’s golf putters, as these are obviously working in his favour!
Your golf putter is one of the most important members of any golf package set, so you need to make sure that yours is a good ‘un! There have been many fads in the world of the golf putter world from the “Ghost” putter and the ridiculous “Spider” putter, but in the midst of the Irish Open capers we have seen the release of a putter that looks like it could be set to stay: the Peanut Putter!
Not, we are not talking about the delicious peanutty treat we spread on toast though the name bears an extremely close resemblance! We are talking about the brand new range of golf putters that are soon to be sitting snuggly in your golf bag. Befittingly developed by an Irish golfing company, the Peanut Putter features a distinctive shaped head reminiscent of a monkey-nut shell (hence the name) and has promised golfers game improvement with the view to sink more golf balls. Though these are brand new, they have already been used by pros like Simon Dyson, Vijay Singh and Darren Clarke and the company boasting this creation already have more than 300 pre-orders under their belts!
The brain behind this Peanut Putter, Robin Daly, stated, “I am confident that this brand new putter concept is one of the best in the world. As a design engineer, the most rewarding part of the job is seeing form and function combine.”
Of course this brand new range of golf putters cannot promise to bag you scores but they could enhance your game!
It would appear that the gold putter is the most coveted member of your Golf Package Set family! A lot of golfers consider their putter to be one of the most important clubs that they own and when embarking on a competition as big as, say, the US Open, this little instrument is likely to be well looked after by a pro golfer. Canadian James Love found out the hard way how important it was to keep your golf putter safe!
He let his golf package set out of his sight for moments and upon returning found that his prized golf putter – engraved with his name – had in fact gone missing. He was then forced to borrow a ladies golf putter from Kristi Larson. Love had been apprehensive to play with anything other than the putter that he had grown so used to and tried out 5 different clubs before settling with Larson’s. He made the final decisions due to the fact that, “It’s got the same head as the putter I had,” adding that it would still be tricky to use as it was far lighter than his beloved golf putter and 3 inches shorter. However, despite this little setback, Love went on to finish in 7th place, proving that a pro golfer can overcome any golfing obstacle! He stated “I’m trying to get used to it, but I’ve been leaving a lot of putts short. I’m not trying to make excuses. You should be able to putt with anything.”
No doubt you have all been catching up with the action at the US Golf Open, and if you golfing ladies are anything like me you will have been drooling over the lovely Golf Package Sets carted around by Danielle Kang and Kelly Jacques! Ok, it may be a sport but there is nothing wrong with wanting to stamp your personality on your golf package set or even your golf putter and so on! Some narrow minds may still think that “Golf is for men” and sure, the sport is still dominated by men but this just gives us ladies all the more reason to flaunt our femininity on the course; in my humble opinion, anyway.
This is why I have picked a delightful gold package set for myself complete with pink trim on my golf bag. This does not make me any less serious about the sport and my golf putter, wedge and so on are all top calibre and they just look that little bit prettier!
Its clearly not just us golfing ladies that love to jazz up our golf sets – have you seen the golf package candy currently being used by Tiger Woods? This pro clearly has a taste for a bit of bling bling – I read that he has his golf cart kitted out with spinning hubs and all! – and consistently sports the shiniest and most fancy Nike clubs, proving that the men care just as much about looking slick on the course as ladies do!
Golf enthusiasts may already know this, but it may surprise some of you to learn that golf accessories like a golf cart were not commonplace until 14 years ago. Until then even pro golfers had to cart around their own gold wedges and so on – unless of course they had their very own lackey to do it for them! It wasn’t until Casey Martin filed a lawsuit for his right to utilise golf carts during golf competitions back in 2001 and won against the PGA that golf accessories like that were even taken seriously on the green. Casey Martin suffers from a circulatory disorder and experiences reduced blood flow to his leg making walking difficult, which is why he needed this essential in golf accessories.
Nowadays you rarely see golf star heading to the green in the US Open without their gold wedges, putters and so on tucked neatly inside their golf carts, but naturally some of them are far more ostentatious than others! Unsurprisingly, golfing superstar Tiger Woods can be seen driving around in a “pimped out” golf cart drives at double the speed of a regular golf car! Despite the fact that he claims not to care about such extravagances, Tiger Wood’s slick little vehicle was custom built to his specifications and even features some cracking spinning wheels, the likes of which would not look out of place in the latest P Diddy video! Talk about the ultimate in golf accessories!
Golf Trolleys hen you settle down to watch the Golf Opens this year’s you will notice that the professionals all have the very best gear – from the coolest golf trolleys to slick little golf accessories. Naturally the golf accessories or the golf trolleys that a golfer picks don’t make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things, but hey – what can we say? If Carly Booth, Azahara Munoz and Anastasia Kostina have all the best gear then naturally we will covet it!
Though it is not fair to lump us all together, if you lady golf fans are anything like me you will take your golf accessories as seriously as you take your golfing….well, almost! There are tonnes of companies out there providing us ladies with some excellently girly golf accessories – from pretty pink golf trolleys to flowery gold bags, hats in pastel colours to specially made little gold socks, we have much more fun picking out our golf accessories than your average male golfer!
My personal fave when it comes to golf accessories are the golf balls – the bright pink ones in particular! These look like gloriously shiny sweeties and I must admit, I love the added ego-boost I get when I take my shiny, hot-pink balls out of my flowery golf bag that sits on one of the cutest golf trolleys you have ever seen! The men all share a look – a “This’ll be a laugh” look – which means that it is all the more satisfying when I send those pretty pink balls soaring way over their heads!
When it comes to golf drivers, thankfully, in today’s golfing world development has come on leaps and bounds so it has never been a better time to start teeing off. Just like with any sport the advantages of investing in a good piece of equipment when moving the golf balls round the course can be crucial to your play. When it comes to buying the right golf driver there are lots of different types to choose from, including top of the range drivers to cheaper options but getting the best one really comes down to which suits your game best. For example, if you struggle with finding the sweet spot on the head of a driver you might find the increased MOI on a square head more suited to your play as this creates straighter shots even if the club wasn’t directly on the ball.
For those golfers with an already low handicap you should look at drivers which are at tour standard and include features that allow you to work the ball. Therefore, some of the high end drivers have movable weight technology and moveable heads. The shaft on the driver can also alter the flight of a golf ball creating a more all-round consistent performance on the course.
If you have a medium handicap then again, buying a more premium driver might help to improve your game, you should also consider your loft as dropping down might help increase the distance you get.
High handicap golfers should take into account all these things and also try and opt for a driver with a head of 460cc as this will mean more forgiveness on those slightly more inaccurate swings.
A few weeks ago it was my uncle’s birthday and being the avid golfer that he is, the family thought we should club together to get him some brand new golf gear. We split ourselves into groups, divvying up the golf drivers here and the tee-buyers there and the biggest group was handed the task of purchasing the golf trolley.
Now, my uncle is notoriously against gold trolley’s, claiming that he has a “perfectly good set of shoulders” and he intends to use them! It’s a shame, because we found dozens of swanky looking golf trolleys on the web just by searching for “Golf Trolleys UK” and they were all reasonably priced. So I then gave myself the task of convincing my uncle that golf trolleys where the way forward!
I started by showing him all the cool golf trolleys UK websites had to offer, but again he fed me that same line; “I’ve got shoulders!” so I realised a whole new tactic was needed and struck gold when I came across an article about Injuries caused by golf bags. One pro-golf trolley fan even said that due to over bending, twisting and general strain caused by his golf bag, his game was thrown off for weeks whilst he received physical therapy! One glimpse of this and my uncle soon buckled!
So thanks to searching for “Golf Trolleys UK” my uncle’s lovely new golf drivers and tee’s are being carted about in style!
Golf accessories and equipment traditionally started out rather dull and boring with minimal experimentation when it came to colours and design. On the whole however, while there has been a significant degree of advancement, the vast majority of golf accessories and golf grips in shops can still primarily feature dull, plain colours such as black. The solution if you want more colour in your golf bag: shop online instead and find exactly what you want.
I am a relatively young golfer in that I am currently in my late 20s and have gotten to grips with the game over the past few years spent playing with friends. I have more money to pour into my equipment now so I can be more adventurous with my purchases. It had been a while since I had last replaced my golf grips and I have finally decided that now is the time to do so. When searching for new golf grips last week I became aware that Lamkin launched a new range which consisted of some bold colours including green, orange, red and blue. I will definitely be ordering some of these grips when I get paid at the end of the month – giving me just two weeks to side on which colour for which club!
Regardless of colour, the engineering that has gone into the new Lamkin golf grips appears to be incredible. What I was most interested in was the mention of a European range which is intended for players who need excellent feel and control and poor weather conditions – excellent considering I live in Scotland!
Last year I was fortunate enough to reach retirement age in May and was presented with the difficult task having to find activities to fill the days in what had been my longest summer in years. I had owned my own basic set of golf clubs for years but had always lacked the time, golf accessories, and good golf putters, needed to make any major improvement to my game. Spending a couple of days each week on the golf course I noticed the extra items available to the golfer who wished to potentially improve his game; so I decided to investigate!
Through browsing golf shops, both online and offline, I quickly bore witness to wide variety of useless golf accessories out there (presumably to be used as gifts for old codgers like me). After some browsing and witnessing other players on the course I decided to invest in a ball retriever and a putting gate. A further investment during my hunt for new golf gear was on a shiny new golf putter – I just couldn’t help myself.
So, armed with my new golf putter and putting gate I was able to improve my short game considerably by practicing at home. Additionally, the retriever I found to be particularly useful in terms of easing my back pain from being able to avoid bending over to pick up balls. There are a lot of golf accessories out there that won’t be of any use to you, so choose wisely if you want to enhance your game.
